WHY IS ORGANIC GROWTH APPEARING AROUND THE HOME OR BUSINESS?
jknight • July 16, 2022

You’re probably wondering what organic growth is, and why it's there in the first place.

Organic growth refers to living organisms that grow on exterior surfaces, especially in damp, shaded, or poorly ventilated areas.

Moisture and warmth are the primary culprits that turn your surfaces into an ideal breeding ground. Porous surfaces tend to be more susceptible to organic growth, leading to a persistent issue that requires continuous attention.

Common examples include:

  • Mould & mildew - Fungi that thrive in moist, warm conditions, often black, green, or brown patches.
  • Moss - Soft, green plant growth, often found on roofs, shaded walls, or between pavers.
  • Algae - Green, brown, or reddish film, common on siding, stucco, and concrete.
  • Lichen - A crusty, sometimes colorful growth that bonds tightly to tin, stone, brick, or wood.

These can damage surfaces over time by trapping moisture, staining materials, and weakening structures.

When should I have a clean done?

An important thing to keep in mind is that the moment it appears is the ideal time to take action before it spirals out of control. The earlier you tackle its removal, the happier, healthier, and safer both you and your surfaces will be.
